Oxytetracycline (as hydrochloride) 200 mg

Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic with a bacteriostatic action against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, with the exception of Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, and Proteus spp. The antibacterial spectrum of oxytetracycline includes furthermore Leptospires, Spirochetes, Actinomyces, Rickettsia, Bedsonia, some Mycoplasms, and some Protozoa.
The bacteriostatic effect of oxytetracycline is based on the inhibition of glutamic acid metabolism in the cells, thus inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial proteins.
The development of bacterial resistance to tetracyclines increasing among many bacterial species; resistance is occurring especially in Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, Aerobacter, Enterococci, and Proteus. Cross-resistance between tetracyclines is complete.
After intramuscular administration of this formulation, therapeutic blood concentrations of oxytetracycline are retained for at least 60 to 72 hours (>0.1 mcg/ml) due to the special formulation and dosage Schedule.
Excretion takes place mainly, via kidneys in unchanged form and partly via the bile.
